“From Start To Finish The Editorial Shoot With Jackky Bhagnani Was A Laugh Riot” – Nazneen Harianawala

Nazneen Harianawala brings into vogue the importance of education in any industry, understanding individual fashion identity and picks Vikram Bawa as the one photographer who captures her work brilliantly.
How did fashion in your city influence you to pursue a career in it?
The innovations I came up with, while doing a whole lot of street shopping, putting garments and accessories bought off the road from tiny stalls together, during my college days with limited pocket money has influenced my fashion sense in a big way. As much as I love high street brands, I will always have a soft spot for Colaba Causeway, Hill Road and Fashion Street.

One person from the industry/profession who has been a source of inspiration for you?
The person who comes to my mind immediately is Nisha Jhangiani (Fashion Director – Verve Magazine). What inspires me most about her work is the spunk in her editorial columns. You just can’t wait to see the next image!
One international fashion stylist that you draw influences from?
I believe each individual has his or her own style and creativity that shows in their work. That said I love Edward Enninful’s edgy style that is beautifully portrayed in his shoots.

How did you end up in this profession? And how did you garner your skills?
It started with designing for family and friends. Then I joined B.D. Somani (Mumbai) to brush up on my skills as a designer but soon realized my passion for styling. I will always be a learner. When I moved to Toronto two years ago, I saw the opportunity to study international fashion industry. Even though I was well settled in the industry, I studied fashion styling and visual merchandising from Toronto Fashion Academy and that helped me bring my creative best to the forefront.
Can you name a few ads and brands that you have been associated with in your career so far?
Yogesh Jasnani – Jewellery campaign, Provogue, Flipkart, Om Jewellers, Poison Jeans, London Paris New York (standees for feature film), Savvy Magazine, Verve Magazine, Stuff Magazine, Hi Blitz! Magazine, Cine Blitz Magazine.

A precious fashion tip?
I truly believe that in the wonderfully chaotic world of fashion it is important for people to hold on to their own individual fashion identity.
A celebrity you had a blast styling?
From start to finish, the editorial shoot with Jackky Bhagnani was a laugh riot. He has a wonderful way of making everyone feel comfortable.

Your most challenging work so far? Favorite photographers who capture your work beautifully?
My most challenging shoot so far was a print on print look. The fact that I had to put together such a large number of prints in every shot which were different and at the same time perfectly synchronized was extremely tricky but creatively challenging. Renowned photographer Vikram Bawa has worked that shoot and I believe he is the one who best captures my work.
One fetish that you have that no one knows about?
Jackets, jackets and more jackets!!!
