"My daddy is my hero!" – Priyanka Chandel
Meet Priyanka Chandel: the confident and pretty model and television artist from Dehradun
Tell us about the influence of your city on your upbringing?
The city of Dehradun (Uttarakhand) has moral values instilled in me and I feel that these values are the key to my professional growth.
How did you end up in the MTV Splitsvilla?
Honestly, I never thought of participating in Splitsvilla or any other reality show. I was in my college and had won the Title of Miss Uttarakhand Dish TV Media Choice. My friends used to encourage me to do television shows. It so happened that and one day I was on Facebook and a message popped up calling me for this show. By God’s grace I got selected. I did not have to put any extra effort (laughs)… Bus hogaya (it just happened).
What’s your most memorable experience that you brought back from MTV Spiltsvilla season 6?
The entire journey and the villa are memorable for me. Especially, whenever Nikhil Chinapa said “alright Splitsvillan!” my heart would go ummmmm! (laughs)
What does modeling mean to you and why this profession?
I believe in this – if you have a special quality, flaunt it. And modelling and acting are things that suit me the best. I mean, who doesn’t want to be famous? If someone says they don’t want fame, I bet you, they are lying. I feel it is just lack of opportunities or confidence in them. As per why modelling, I never chose this profession. Maybe I was destined to end up in this field, and I totally love it.
How did Meri Ashiqui Tumse Hi on Colours TV happen?
Another surprising thing that happened in my life after MTV Splitsvilla season 6 was Meri Ashiqui Tumse Hi on Colors TV. I didn’t give an audition for the tele serial. The makers of the show saw my YouTube channel and guess what I was playing the role of Shanaila from the very next day. The contract with Balaji Telefilms was like a dream come true. Then I got to work with some of the big production houses and act in shows such as Emotional Atyachar on UTV Bindass (by Endemol), Pyar Tune Kya Kiya on Zing (Lost Boys Productions) and a pilot shoot with Mandira Bedi for Dreamz Girl on Life Okay (Sashi Sumeet Productions) and CID on Sony (Fireworks Productions). As I always say, I believe in destiny… and God knew that I belonged here.
Advertisements you have modeled for?
Catalogue shoots for many cosmetic brands and ads for Pepperfry.com, Jabong.com, Maruti, Blenders Pride, Jiya Jewellers and many more!
One objective you live by?
I don’t want to live as normal person… I feel that I am born with an objective and have a purpose to discover in life.
Your role models in professional and personal life?
I admire anyone who is doing good work and is successful. In personal life, my daddy is my hero! He is a true gentleman. Without his support I don’t think I would have made this far.
How supportive is your family support you pursue your dream of making it big in the industry?
Initially they were against my career choice, as everybody in my family is either a Doctor or an Engineer. I was also studious in school and even cracked the dental entrance exams. But now they are happy and support me a lot. I love my younger brother and sister. My whole family is very supportive and I have the best family… touchwood!
