Let us talk about nautanki of the Nautanki Saala (2013) starrer Pooja Salvi. But before that, let me tell you, ‘nautanki’ is not a bad word at all, though it has been popularly desecrated. I used it for Pooja because of 1) the new film 2) its meaning – nine forms of emotions(rasaas) 3) and also because the diva has successfully portrayed all these emotions in her ad films!
Bollywood may be new to Pooja, but she’s no alien to the camera. Besides, who gets to star in the Rohan Sippy’s film for the debut! The 25-year-old Gujarati girl has come a long way from personifying brands to adding oomph to the remix of Madhuri Dixit’s famous Dhak Dhak song. She played the female protagonist in the romantic comedy flick, the other two heroines being VJ-turned-actress Gaelyn Mendonca and ad diva Evelyn Sharma. The trailer created a lot of buzz and was a promised blockbuster for Ayushmaan, whose Vicky Donor won the prestigious National Award. Nautanki Saala released on April 12 and proved to be an average hit for its versatility. Kunal Roy’s performance in Raavan scene stood out in the film.
Pooja (DOB 25 March 1988) was born in Patan, Gujarat. Having endorsed several brands, Pooja has earlier worked in the award-winning Cosmic Dance, an immersive cinema, made for the Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization. Running on the theme — modern science and universal thinking are not in contradiction, but one reality — the unique-style film tells the story of civilization through dance form. Pooja will be next seen in yet to be titled Tamil movie.
With her big, expressive eyes and cute face, the curly hair beauty has made a huge mark in modelling and advertising industry. Endorsing a wide range of products – tea, biscuits, chocolates, chewing gums, cameras, LEDs and costly jewellery – is a measure in itself!
