Madhu-Sapre & Milind Soman For Tuff Footwear:
They were too hot to handle and way ahead of their times. It was sensual and bold; a python wrapped around their bodies sporting the shoes. It was candid and back in 1995 the ad attracted police charges for obscenity while the animal rights activists went ballistic about the use of the python. Milind Soman and Madhu Sapre were a couple back then and this was the hottest topic in the media.
The Pooja Bedi and Marc Robinson ad, where Pooja is in the shower before Marc joins her there, made Pooja a household name. Shot in 1991, it was again way ahead of its times. It definitely challenged the closed minded sensibilities of many. She was the sex symbol and the face of Kamasutra when it was launched. In an interview Pooja claims to have not known that it would get this steamy and says the hand that squeezes Robinson’s back is her make-up artists’ hand.
Kalyan Jewellers Ad:
This one has Aishwarya Rai wearing jewellery and looking at the camera while a boy is holding a parasol for her. While Aishwarya’s skin is glowing, the boy’s skin colour is in contrast, dark. The ad as considered racist and also encouraging child labour and it was banned.
Bips & Dino in The Calida Ad:
They made a cute couple back in the day. Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea, shot for an Australian undergarment brand. Dino was seen pulling Bips’ undergarment with his teeth. It may not have looked vulgar at all but obviously, it was pulled down soon after it got released. The then Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Anil Deshmukh, made sure the ad was discontinued.
Yeh Toh Bada Toing Hai-Amul Macho:
Model Sana Khan’s launch pad, this ad created waves in the industry and outside when it got released. She was shown washing Amul Macho undergarments and shown exhibiting expressions that were considered vulgar. The tagline “Yeh toh bada toing hai” has been one of the most sxually explict taglines in Indian advertising.
